What are Spots? Spots are art for people and dogs! Spots are interactive kinetic sculptures composed primarily of recycled all-cotton tee shirts. Spots function as original interior design elements, adding splashes of color and organic forms to human living spaces. Most importantly, however, they are wonderful toys for dogs. Their inner cortex of tightly knotted fabric and anemone-like tentacles are perfect for chewing, chasing and playing tug of war. Alison Fletcher Healy, the creator of Spots, received her MFA in conceptual installation from CalArts. Her work has always been oriented towards the innovative use of forms, colors and textures in the context of interior spaces to evoke thought and emotion. Alison, a passionate dog lover, developed the concept of Spots while playing with her beloved Dalmatian-Bull Terrier Spot, for whom the objects are now named. The process of creating Spots has led Alison Fletcher Healy to contemplate the symbolic implications of "tying the knot". In her own words tying knots is about "when things come together". Spots bring people and dogs, as well as the realms of fine art and everyday life, together in their own playful and poignant way.
