 Sitarist Indrajit Banerjee was born in 1965 in a family of musicians. His family is unique due to the large number of accomplished artists in Hindustani classical music. Some of the members include Pt. Kartick Kumar sitar, Niladri Kumar sitar, and Barun Pal slide guitar. Indrajit inherited his musical talent from his sitarist mother, who was a disciple of Pandit Nikhil Banerjee.
