The Basics: Gluttony is a pencil sketch that was digitally colored. History: I drew Gluttony for the purpose of the Pandora's Box show at Jerry's Artarama. The theme of the show was gluttony, and I thought I would be all cool and stuff and illustrate a slight twist on the deadly sin. However, when I went to the actual show, I didn't see any paintings that followed the theme, so I ended up being the conventional one. Ah well. It was a good experience. I tend to draw flowers, birds, and babies a lot, so drawing something dark like this was a great challenge. Additionally, I decided to break from my usual nouveau-type inking style in favor of a raw-looking pencil sketch. Yeah, this was a fun one. Meaning: Okay, this one actually does have meaning, in case you were wondering. The main point I'm making is that gluttony for material things is just as bad as food-gluttony, and despite its apparent social acceptability, I think its just as gross. A lot of women have told me that they really like this piece because it speaks to their own self-perception issues. To those ladies, yeah, I know. Me too.
