Globalization is the future. Of course, I say all of that while sitting comfortably in my room in front of a computer, so it doesn't mean quite as much. For years I've been fascinated by Freudian psychoanalytic theory. In particular, his ideas on the structure of mind and how they in some ways parallel Judeo-Christian mythology. God is the Superego, the pull of ingrained patterns, the rules we're supposed to live by but rarely do. Christ is the Ego, the flesh and blood, fighting against the temptation of Satan- the Id. The id, according to Freud, is bipolar, consisting of the Life Instinct (Eros), the urge to survive and multiply, constantly in contention with the Death Instinct (Thanatos), the desire to return to inanimate form. With 'The Subliminal War', I'm trying to illustrate the contention between Eros and Thanatos, tugging for control of the Ego marionette. In the box, bloated and rotting, God lies dead. Close text
