Mike latter went on to complete a 50 canopy formation. The painting is situated over Titusville, Florida, David had to get every detail of the ground and the characters in the team correct. (However, David did put himself in the hardest slot on the formation!). He used road maps and satellite images of Cape Canaveral to get the launch pads, shuttle landing strips, buildings, roads and landscaping accurate! The most interesting story about this piece concerns the green/gray design in the red triangle in the lower left corner. It would appear to be the same color as the green/gray of the tile in the right foreground. It is an optical illusion. Actually it is significantly darker. The surrounding red absorbed the green making it appear white, so I made the design a much darker green to compensate. Close text
This is a long term Idea i had. Knowing that to some degree all american monuments have been painted or recreated the bar was set to make it as realistic as I could.Air brush and color pencil on Illustration board.
